Patiala News:Punjab Sports University trials successfully completed
-Government approves 350 seats for sports wing of Punjab Sports University – Prof. Gill
The trials of various sports conducted by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University Patiala have been successfully completed. The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Pushpinder Singh Gill, said that Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University has received approval from the Punjab Government for 350 seats for the sports wing, the trials of which were held on September 3 at the Physical College, Patiala. In these, trials of various sports like volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, hockey, judo, table tennis, football, kho-kho, athletics, handball, archery, wrestling, swimming, gymnastics, lawn tennis, boxing, badminton etc. were conducted.
Prof. Gill said that trials of sports like weightlifting, net ball, fencing and cycling are yet to be held. 532 top players of Punjab participated in the first trials conducted by Punjab Sports University. The Vice Chancellor said that Punjab Sports University is the first such university which is providing good coaches, best playing fields, gyms with high technology, labs for good health facilities, good sports experts and good hostels to the players.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill further said that the university is providing all the facilities to the players with which they can bring glory to Punjab at the international level. This is the main reason why such a large number of enthusiastic players came to participate in the trials of the sports wing held for the first time. He said that “We will try to increase the seats in our sports wing from next time so that the players of Punjab can get the benefit of the facilities available in their own university. Now we have 150 residential and 200 day scholar players. We are responsible for their development in every aspect. We promise that these players of ours will set new and high standards in the world in the coming time.” Along with sports, we are also taking special care of their studies so that they can establish themselves as good scholars at the academic level.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Gill shared a special information and said that Attorney at Law from California (USA) S. Jaspreet Singh has promised to provide a diet plan of 50 lakhs every year for the players of Punjab Sports University. Due to these efforts of his, it will be easy to provide the best food to the players, we are deeply grateful to him. On this occasion Dr. Amarpreet Singh Director of Sports, Punjab Sports University, Dr. Harmanpreet Kaur Principal Physical College, Dr. Ranbir Singh Principal Sports College Jalandhar, Dr. Aruna Rani Principal Kala Afghana etc. were also present.
