A 10-day special camp dedicated to healthy lifestyle of the elderly was inaugurated today by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, Patiala.
The camp was formally inaugurated by Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh as the chief guest. On this occasion, the Vice Chancellor of the university Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill was also present.
Welcoming Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, Vice Chancellor Dr. Gill said that it is our primary duty to pay attention to the well-being of the elderly. The elderly are our real capital, due to whose guidance we become capable of living our lives properly.
In his address, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that it is a matter of great regret that in today’s time our elders are becoming victims of loneliness and disrespect. In most of the homes, children have started distancing themselves from their parents during old age. He said, “I congratulate the Vice Chancellor of the Sports University, Dr. Gill, for this noble initiative and also thank him for paying attention to the healthy life of the elders and giving the message in the society that what is the real importance of the elders.”
Vice Chancellor Dr. Gill said that 110 senior citizens are participating in this camp. During the coming 10 days, doctors from various disciplines will educate the senior citizens about common daily diseases like dialysis, blood pressure, diabetes, any kind of surgery etc. and determine their eating habits as per their convenience and requirement.
He further informed that in addition to this, to reduce the mental stress and loneliness of the elderly, a team of counselors will provide them with necessary counseling and creative sports activities will also be organized. Special arrangements have been made for their transportation through university buses so that they do not have to face any problem and their physical and mental well-being can be ensured.
