Patiala News:Every grain of paddy sown in Punjab’s fields will be purchased, strict action will be taken against bringing paddy from outside – Dr. Himanshu Agarwal

Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal has said that every grain of paddy sown by farmers in the fields of Punjab will be purchased on priority basis. Today, while holding a meeting with the Patiala District Aartiya Association to ensure smooth and efficient government procurement of paddy, the Deputy Commissioner clarified that strict action will be taken against paddy coming from outside Punjab and a blockade will also be done by the police and the Food and Civil Supplies Department in the areas bordering Haryana.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has made all kinds of arrangements for the smooth and uninterrupted procurement of farmers’ produce. He called upon the arhtiyas to motivate the farmer warriors associated with them to bring only dry paddy to the markets during the paddy season and not to burn paddy stubble and other waste in their fields.

Dr. Agarwal said that no kind of problem will be allowed to the farmers and laborers including the farmers in the markets. ADC Anuprita Johal, SP Rajesh Chhibbar, all SDMs, DFSC Dr. Ravinder Kaur, District Manager of the procurement agencies, Secretary of the market committees, District President of the Farmers Association Davinder Singh Baidwan, Vice President Eng. Satwinder Saini, Chairman Pawan Singla, District General Secretary Deepak Bansal Dakala along with labor and lifting contractors were also present at the meeting.

Dr. Himanshu Agarwal appealed to the traders that the first priority of the district administration is the convenience of the farmers and smooth procurement of their crops, therefore all the traders should cooperate for smooth procurement of the commodity during the upcoming paddy season. He said that the traders should motivate the farmers not to bring paddy with excess moisture to the markets. Without this, no combine will harvest paddy at night and paddy should be harvested during the day within the specified time from 10 am to 6 pm.

The Deputy Commissioner, after hearing the issues raised by the traders including theft, lights in the markets, assured them of their solution and also thanked them for the cooperation extended in the previous season. He said that the district administration is fully committed to ensure smooth procurement of the crop. He directed the officials to ensure that the arrangements for tarpaulins are completed in the face of rain and action will be taken against the concerned if there is any shortage.

Dr. Agarwal said that the District Mandi Officer has been instructed to ensure that all arrangements including cleanliness, calibration of moisture checking meters, grain storage, transportation, labor, drinking water and toilets for farmers, security are completed in every mandi so that there is no problem in the mandis so that every single grain of the farmers’ produce can be purchased on time. He appealed to the farmers to bring only dry paddy to the mandis for immediate purchase of paddy and to avoid burning straw and other waste. On this occasion, the presidents and other representatives of the Aartiya Associations of all the mandis of the district were also present.
