Patiala News:Deputy Commissioner and SSP review anti-drug activities in Patiala district under ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign
Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal and SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans reviewed anti-drug activities being undertaken in the district under the Punjab Government’s ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign. On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is focusing on skill development to help persons battling drug addiction achieve de-addiction and rehabilitation. The SSP said that Patiala Police is firmly committed to breaking the drug supply chain in accordance with the directions of the Chief Minister and the DGP, but the support of society is essential to curb the demand for drugs.
The meeting, held at the District Administrative Complex, was attended by OSD Urban Development Mukilan R, ADC (G) Anuprita Johal, Yudh Nasheyan Virudh Nasha Mukti Morcha District Rural President Yadvinder Singh Goldy Sandhu, Urban District President Baljinder Singh Sarao, Vice-President Pawan Kumar and Halqa President Pritpal Singh, besides Halqa and Block Coordinators from all eight Assembly constituencies of the district. Feedback and suggestions were also sought from all the leaders working at the grassroots level for drug de-addiction and prevention.
Dr Himanshu Aggarwal said that the ‘Yudh Nasheyan Virudh’ campaign launched by the Punjab Government has strengthened prevention, monitoring, rehabilitation and community participation in combating drug abuse. As a result, members of Ward and Village Defence Committees as well as the general public are increasingly coming forward against drugs. At the same time, the civil administration is emphasising that people willing to quit drugs should be motivated and brought to de-addiction centres for treatment and rehabilitation.
SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said that Patiala Police is taking strict action against drug traffickers. He said that a CASO (Cordoning and Search Operation) was conducted in the Nabha area on the same day, during which 14 persons were apprehended and FIRs were registered against 10 of them. He said that the campaign is continuing across the district. He also urged people to share information about drug peddlers through the ‘Safe Punjab’ portal, assuring that the identity of the person providing such information is kept confidential.
Yadvinder Singh Goldy Sandhu said that the services of persons who have successfully overcome drug addiction are also being utilised. These individuals, now serving as ‘Surme’ and brand ambassadors for de-addiction, are helping take the anti-drug campaign forward.
All SDMs and DSPs, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Jaswinder Singh, and Nasha Mukti Morcha leaders—Jaswinder Singh from Ghanaur, Bhupinder Singh from Nabha, Rajesh Kumar from Rajpura, Ram Singh from Samana and Gurmeet Singh Panjola from Sanour—were also present during the meeting.
