Giving a new impetus to development works in Patiala Rural, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today laid the foundation stone of sanitation and renovation works of ponds in villages Ghamroda and Mandaur under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann. On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Mr. Damanjit Singh Mann and SDM Nabha Mr. Ravinderpal Singh Somal were also present.
Apart from this, Dr. Balbir Singh also inaugurated 24-hour electricity supply at village Hiana Kalan. He informed that sanitation and pond renovation works have been started at Mandaur at a cost of about Rs. 2.5 crore and at Ghamroda at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.
The Health Minister said that in addition to solving the problem of dirty water in the villages, special efforts are being made to clean the water and reuse it properly and improve the environment of the villages. Referring to the ongoing development works in Ghamroda and Mandaur villages, Dr. Balbir Singh said that the problem of dirty water in both the villages had been a cause of difficulty for the people for a long time. To solve this, a modern sewage treatment system is being developed, under which the dirty water will be cleaned by passing it through different stages.
He said that due to the discharge of sewage waste water in Ghamroda village, the problem of dirt and bad smell was arising in about four and a half acres of land. Now chambers are being built here to treat sewage water through modern technology. Technical assistance of IIT Ropar is also being taken for this project.
Dr. Balbir Singh said that after treatment, the water will be reused and activities like fish farming will also be encouraged in it. The income from fish farming will go to the Panchayat account, which will enable the necessary human resources to be arranged for the care and maintenance of the project.
The Health Minister said that these projects are not being limited to just wastewater disposal, but there is a plan to develop them as model environmental parks. Activities like Nanak Garden, plantation, conservation of heritage trees and butterfly park will be developed at these places. He said that priority will be given to planting old and heritage types of trees at these places, so that the natural heritage of the villages can be preserved. Along with this, the people of the village will be involved in plantation and maintenance of parks through MNREGA and other available resources, which will also create employment opportunities. Officers of various departments and villagers were present on this occasion.
