Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill, has successfully completed a 10-day camp for the well-being of the elderly from September 21 to September 30. Through this camp, the Sports University has given a unique message of taking care of the elderly to the entire society. Hockey Olympian Dr. Rupa Saini attended the farewell ceremony of this camp as the chief guest. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill said that we had organized this camp keeping in mind the health and mental problems of the elderly. Nowadays, the elderly are the most neglected. The inquiry that should be done about the elderly in the families is not happening, but they are being seen as an extra item, which is the biggest tragedy of our society. He said that the elderly are our capital. Their lifetime experiences, their perspective can serve as a treasure for us. The things we can learn by sharing their life experiences cannot be learned from any book.
On this occasion, Dr. Rupa Saini said that in the present times our society is misguided, disrespect and disrespect for elders is a common phenomenon, in most of the homes children have started distancing themselves from their parents during old age. She said that I congratulate the Vice Chancellor of the Sports University Dr. Gill for this noble initiative. Due to his foresight, a good message has been able to go to the society and this university has also received the blessings of the elders. During the farewell ceremony, the elders looked very happy and excited while sharing their experiences of the camp. In the end, all the elders were also honored.
Dr. Gill said that 110 senior citizens participated in this camp. During the 10 days, our experts from various disciplines made the senior citizens aware about the daily dialysis, blood pressure, diabetes, any kind of surgery etc. keeping in mind the various diseases and their convenience and need to determine the eating habits. Apart from this, to reduce the mental stress and loneliness of the senior citizens, the team of counselors also organized creative sports activities by providing necessary counseling.
