Spiritual Well-Being and Ethical Governance Crucial for Future Growth: Dr. Zora Singh

Desh Bhagat University’s Seminar Concludes with a Vision for Ethical and Inclusive Development

 

Mandi Gobindgarh, 3 February :The two-days National Seminar on “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: A Bharat-Centric Approach to Holistic Human Development”, organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages at Desh Bhagat University in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), successfully concluded.

On the second day, the seminar commenced with an introduction and formal welcome of the resource persons and dignitaries. Dr. Harpreet Singh, Principal of GGN Institute of Management and Technology, Ludhiana, emphasized the importance of instilling values of sacrifice and devotion in the younger generation. He highlighted that while the current education system adequately focuses on skill development, it often overlooks essential life values, particularly spirituality, which fosters these values.

The event was graced by Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor, as the Guest of Honor. Dr. Virinder Singh, advisor to Chancellor, Vice President Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Dr Surjit Kaur Patheja, Registrar Surinder Pal Kapoor were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Liisa J. Toivonen, Counsellor for Higher Education and Science Policy at the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi, also graced the occasion. She opined that “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” rooted in Indian civilization, envisions the unity of humanity as one single family.

The seminar covered themes such as “Ethics, Literature, Language and Human Development,” “Economic Models and Resource Utilization,” and “Philosophy of Integral Humanism and Development.” Scholars presented their research papers, followed by interactive sessions where participants engaged in discussions, with resource persons and presenters addressing various questions.

Dr. M.S. Nijar, former Registrar of Punjabi University, Patiala, who delivered a keynote address elaborating on the inter connectedness of individual and collective well-being within the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

Dr. Gurpal Singh Sandhu, Professor at Panjab University Chandigarh and Director of Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti, emphasized incorporating India’s cultural and philosophical ethos into modern development strategies.

The seminar concluded with a grand felicitation ceremony, recognizing distinguished speakers and participants for their contributions. S. Davinder Singh, Director CTMT Canada vied that ultimately, the need for India’s cultural and philosophical ethos in modern development is not just about preserving the past, but about creating a future that draws on the best of both tradition and modernity, fostering a global model of development that values not only economic success but also the well-being of individuals, communities, and the planet as a whole.

Dr. Zora Singh stressed that integrating India’s traditional principles such as sustainability, collective welfare, ethical governance, and spiritual well-being into development policies could lead to a more balanced and inclusive future.
