At a special function held at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar, former President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, dedicated to the Sangat a book on Vedanta Darshan authored by Dr. Hardev Singh, Dean, Faculty of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies.
On this occasion, Prof. Badungar stated that Gurbani does not reject the religious scriptures and literature of the world; rather, it critiques those hypocrites and ritualists who fail to understand the true message of their sacred texts.
Appreciating the book, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prit Pal Singh said that the six classical systems of Indian philosophy are included in the curriculum of the Master’s programme in Religious Studies. Publishing these texts in Gurmukhi, he added, will enable students to access the original works more effectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hardev Singh remarked that among the ancient classical texts repeatedly referred to in Gurbani, Vedanta occupies a significant place. He further stated that the study of earlier classical scriptures is a fundamental requirement for Gurbani exegetes and scholars seeking to understand the originality and distinctiveness of Gurmat principles.
He informed the audience that prior to this publication, Yoga Darshan and Sankh Darshan had also been published in Gurmukhi by the Sikh Education Council UK.
Among others present on the occasion were Deputy Registrar Jagjit Singh and Dr. Palwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies.
The scholars present expressed hope that the new generation of researchers and students would derive immense benefit from this publication.
