Aam Aadmi Party (AAP ) Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal, saying its leaders were running a politically motivated campaign to defame Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and his family , while deliberately hiding their political and personal connections.

Chahal Punjab’s media in-charge, Baltej Pannu, said the allegations against the Chief Minister and his family are based on baseless claims, and neither the alleged audio recording nor the claims related to it have been independently verified. ” Punjab knows this politics well,” he said. “Character assassination has become their only political weapon because they have no answer to the actions of the Bhagwant Mann government.”

Taking direct aim at the Akali leadership, he questioned why the leaders, who claim to know the people at the center of this controversy well , are now going to the Governor instead of answering questions about their connections. ” If you know these people so well , why all this drama of going to the Governor ? Why don’t you answer questions about your connections first ?” he asked.

Pannu presented the photographs to the media.

Baltej Pannu presented several photographs before the media , and said that these revealed the political connections of the people whose names are being used in the current controversy.

He showed photographs of Amardeep Grewal with BJP leaders like JP Nadda, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Ravneet Singh Bittu and questioned the person’s political proximity with senior BJP leaders.

Baltej Pannu also showed several photographs of Gurmeet Chahal with Sukhbir Singh Badal, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and Bikram Singh Majithia at family and social events. Referring to Hundal’s photographs with Akali leaders, he said that these are not photographs of unknown leaders , but of people who have been close to the Akali leadership. Baltej Pannu said , ” These photographs are important because the same political structure is now being presented as the source of allegations against the Mann family. The people of Punjab should see these photographs and decide for themselves who is politically connected to whom.”

Majithia should answer questions about power and his wealth.

Baltej Pannu directly questioned Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia over allegations of connections to power and Pindi, asking him to clarify what these individuals’ relationships were with him and the Akali leadership, and in what capacity they had access to their homes and political circles. He said , ” What relationships did these individuals have with you and the Akali leadership ? In what capacity did they have access to your homes and political circles ? Instead of pointing fingers at others , you should first answer questions about your own relationships.”

Questioning the massive increase in Bikram Singh Majithia’s wealth, Baltej Pannu said , ” When you came to Punjab , you had a broken Qualis. How did you become so rich in just a few years ? How did your business empire grow so rapidly ? Where did this money come from ?”

He said that the Akali leadership cannot escape from questions regarding its political connections by pointing fingers at others.

Punjab has not forgotten the jungle raj of 2007-17

Baltej Pannu said , ” The people of Punjab have not forgotten the jungle raj of 2007 to 2017. When questions were raised on the rulers of that time , the Akali leadership did not respond with the alacrity that it is demanding from others today.”

Baltej Pannu also attacked the previous government on the issue of drugs, saying that those involved in drug trafficking had political ties with Akali leaders. He said , ” Those who brought the drug menace to such a level that an entire generation was ruined are now standing before the people and asking questions.”

Bhagwant Mann government has no answer for its actions , hence it is making personal attacks.

Baltej Pannu said that the opposition has no answer to the changes made by the Bhagwant Mann government , hence it is trying to divert the political debate towards personal attacks.

He cited free electricity up to 600 units for every household, expansion of canal irrigation, and a cashless healthcare scheme worth Rs 10 lakh as examples of the government’s public welfare work . Baltej Pannu said, ” The opposition must answer why the condition of Punjab’s government schools, hospitals, and public transport was allowed to deteriorate during their claims. The people of Punjab can clearly compare the state of public services before 2022 with the changes made during the Mann government’s tenure.”

He specifically pointed to the expansion of canal irrigation, saying that the Mann government had increased canal water use from 21% to 80% . He said , ” Those who previously claimed to be ‘ guardians of Punjab’s water ‘ should tell us where Punjab’s water was going during their governments. Today , canal irrigation has expanded significantly, and people can see the difference.”

Citing improvements in public transport and changes in government schools and hospitals, Baltej Pannu said that the people of Punjab can clearly see the changes that have taken place during the Bhagwant Mann government.

No character assassination can hide the actions of the Bhagwant Mann government.

Baltej Pannu said the opposition cannot erase its record by repeatedly targeting the Chief Minister and his family. “The people of Punjab know who these people are , they can see who they stand with , and they can also see who is working for Punjab. No amount of character assassination can hide the actions of the Bhagwant Mann government.”

Baltej Pannu appealed , ” Show these pictures to the people. Let Punjab see these relationships for itself instead of listening to one-sided political rhetoric. The Chahal government will not be distracted by personal attacks and will focus on development , public welfare and providing services to the people of Punjab.”
