Batala mobile store shooting: Gangster Nishan Jorian’s main aide arrested after brief shootout; Glock pistol recovered

Chandigarh/Batala, November 27:
In a major success in the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe state as per the guidelines of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Batala Police has arrested a key aide of gangster Nishan Jorian, who was involved in the extortion firing incident in Batala, along with a 9 mm Glock pistol. This information was given here today by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.
The arrested accused has been identified as Lovejit Singh alias Kaka alias Kawaljit, a resident of Vairowal Bawiya, Batala. Apart from recovering the pistol, the police teams have also seized his motorcycle on which he was riding.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the arrested accused, along with his accomplice, opened fire on a mobile store in Batala on November 21 after demanding a ransom of Rs 2 crore in the name of gangster Nishan Jorian. He said that further investigation is underway to establish the back-and-forth links of this case and to trace the handlers behind the ransom conspiracy.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Border Range Sandeep Goyal said that after this incident of firing, special teams were formed under the supervision of SP Investigation Gurpartap Singh Sahota to investigate the matter. He said that after human and technical check, the police teams stopped the accused person when he was coming from village Kudavali on his motorcycle.
The DIG said that during the operation, when the police teams tried to arrest the accused, the accused opened fire on the police party. During the retaliatory firing by the police, the accused was injured due to a bullet injury on the left leg.
Giving further information in this regard, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Batala Mehtab Singh said that the arrested accused is undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Batala. He further said that raids are being conducted by police teams to arrest the remaining accused involved in the firing incident.
In this regard, three separate cases have been registered under Section 308 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station City Batala vide FIR No. 216 dated 20/11/2025, Section 109 and 305 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act vide FIR No. 354 dated 21/11/2025 and Section 109 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act vide FIR No. 219 dated 27/11/2025 at Police Station Dera Baba Nanak vide FIR No. 219 dated 27/11/2025 and Section 109 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act vide FIR No. 219 dated 27/11/2025.

In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Batala Police has arrested a key associate of gangster Nishan Joriyan involved in the firing incident linked to extortion bid in Batala and recovered one 9MM Glock pistol from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Lovejeet Singh alias Kaka alias Kawaljit, a resident of Vairowal Bawia in Batala. Apart from recovering pistol, police teams have also impounded his motorcycle, which he was riding.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the arrested accused, along with his associate, had fired shots at a mobile shop in Batala on November 21, after making a ₹2 crore extortion demand in the name of gangster Nishan Joriyan. Further investigation is in progress to establish forward and backward linkages and trace the handlers behind the extortion conspiracy, he said.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Border Range Sandeep Goel said that following the incident, special teams under the supervision of SP Investigation Gurpartap Singh Sahota were constituted to investigate the matter. Following the human and technical investigations, police teams had managed to intercept the accused person, when he was coming from village Kudawali on his motorcycle, he said.
During the operation, when the police teams tried to apprehend the accused, the latter opened fire at the police party, said the DIG, while adding that in retaliatory firing, the accused sustained bullet injury on his left leg.
Sharing more details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Batala Mehtab Singh the arrested accused has been undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Batala. Police teams are on manhunt to nab the remaining accused person involved in firing incident, he added.
In this regard, three separate cases- FIR no. 216 dated 20/11/2025 under section 308 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station City Batala, FIR no. 354 dated 21/11/2025 under sections 109 and 305 of the BNS and section 25 of the Arms Act and FIR no. 219 dated 27/11/2025 under section 109 of the BNS and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Dera Baba Nanak— have been registered.
