A 21-year old Punjab student, Amrinder Singh, has committed suicide in Surrey, Canada due to mental stress.

He was the only son of his parents living in Punjab. His father Malkit Singh is an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police in Punjab.

A baptised Sikh and a student of Douglas College, New Westminister, Amrinder had gone to Canada in the year 2017 on a Study Visa.

Malkit Singh told media persons that in November 2019 his son had again asked for Rs.20 lakh which was sent to him.

It has been learnt that he came into contact with a Pakistani girl, a resident of Karachi and was allegedly sending gifts and cash to her.

According to his friends in Surrey, he had run out of money and was not able to pay his college dues landing him into huge stress which led him to take the extreme step.

Amrinder’s parents have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to bring their son’s body back from Canada. Arrangements were also being made to send the body back to Punjab with the help of community members in Canada.
