-Language Department Punjab organized Giani Sohan Singh Sital Memorial Dhadi event

The Language Department Punjab organized a Giani Sohan Singh Sital Memorial Dhadi function at Bhasha Bhawan here. On this occasion, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan attended as the chief guest and said that Dhadi art is a proud art that guides the history of Punjab. During the function, eminent Dhadi groups sang the compositions of the late Sital through their performances.

Kultar Singh Sandhwan praised the Language Department and said that by remembering Giani Sohan Singh Sital, the Language Department has done a great job of seeking the blessings of the Punjabi mother. He said that Giani ji has been expressing his desire to make Punjab prosperous in every aspect through all forms of his art. He said that we have to carry the scholarship and creations of personalities like Sital ji with us. Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that Dhadi art is an art that represents bravery and has played a role in turning history from time to time. He said that we are fighting divided on the basis of religion, dress, food and drink and classes, while these things are an indicator of the diversity and beauty of our country. The Speaker said that our heritage is very rich and institutions like the Language Department should contribute more to preserve it.

Director Languages S. Jaswant Singh Zafar said during his welcome address that Giani Sohan Singh Sital’s personality included dhadi art, history, songwriting, novel writing etc. His uniqueness was that when he used to show his talent as a dhadi, it was not felt that he would also be a fine novelist. When we read his novels, we do not feel that he would also be a high-class dhadi. He was proficient in both his colors. It is our duty to organize such events to remember such talent and make the new generation aware of it. He said that dhadi and kavishri art have made an important contribution to the flourishing of the Punjabi language since the medieval period. Director Zafar said that both the religious and heritage forms of dhadi art have their own color and importance. They have a lot of contribution in the religious and cultural development of the Punjabi region.

On this occasion, the main speaker Mr. Des Raj Chhajli shed light on the personality and art of Giani Sohan Singh Sital and gave information about the beginning and development of Dhadi music of Punjab. He said that Dhadi art is a true tradition of music which has been going on since before the Guru’s time. He said that after the martyrdom of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, there was an important turning point in the Dhadi art of Punjab, due to which the color of Bir Ras was added to it. He said that Dhadi art makes the thinking of the people pure, high and sharp. Then Mr. Des Raj Chhajli and his companions Gharinder Singh Waraich, Harbag Singh Waraich and Hans Raj Chhajli started the Dhadi singing by singing ‘Aang-Sang Rahi Baazan Wale’. Then they gave a grand start to the event by presenting on the Gadar movement and the current situation of Punjab. The Jatha of Dhadhi Rachpal Singh Pamal, after singing a pauri of Guru Arjan Sahib, took the event to a new level by singing Sital’s Jhok Chhand composition ‘Keh De Ek Vari Put Nahin Dasmesh Da’ and ‘Apna Punjab Hove, Haat ‘Cha Kitab Hove’. The Jatha of Navjot Singh Mander, Jaskawar Singh Mander and Navkanwar Singh Mander took the event to a new level by singing Giani Sital’s compositions ‘Punjab Diye Mutiare Ni’, ‘Meri Hanjuan ‘Cha Khur Gayi Jawani’ along with their popular songs ‘Gani’ and ‘Klariya Mora Ve’.

On this occasion, a book ‘Saal De Safe’ based on the activities and achievements of the Language Department of the previous year was also launched. The guests and the Dhadi Jathas were honored with departmental shawls and sets of books. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor of Bhupindra Sports University Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill, S. Kanwaljit Singh Dhindsa, Padma Shri Pran Sabharwal, Professor Kirpal Kazhak, Eng. Jyotinder Singh, Assistant Director of North Zone Cultural Center Ravinder Sharma, SDM Gurdev Singh, former Deputy Director Satnam Singh, poet Avtarjit Singh, Dr. Jagdish Papara, Pritam Singh Johal, Rangkarmi Joga Singh and Dr. Pushpinder Khokhar along with a large number of audience were present.
