Patiala News:Mission Clean Patiala: Punjab Pollution Control Board leads two major cleanliness drives in Patiala city

Continuing the activities under Mission Clean Patiala to promote mass cleanliness of public places and roads of the city, Punjab Pollution Control Board in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and the Municipal Corporation today led two major cleaning drives. The first cleaning drive was conducted along the District Administrative Complex Road, from Thapar Chowk to Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib, in which students of Modern Senior Secondary School and officers and staff of DC Office, Public Works, RTO, Forest Department, Central Jail, Red Cross Society and Municipal Corporation participated enthusiastically. Garbage, long-standing waste and horticultural waste were cleared from the roadside. Municipal Corporation teams assisted in cleaning the garbage heaps and for proper management.

Joint Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Manreet Rana and Assistant Commissioner (General) Harjot Kaur Mavi interacted with the participating students and assured them of taking appropriate action against the vendors who were found repeatedly throwing garbage along the road. The second cleanliness drive conducted by PPCB in association with Play Ways School covered the stretch from Patiala Railway Station to Fountain Chowk. The principal, staff and students of classes VIII to XII actively participated in cleaning the plastic waste along the route. Staff members of Omax Mall also joined the cleanliness initiative.

PPCB Chairperson Reena Gupta said, “Air pollution, especially dust pollution, is one of the major factors affecting the air quality of Patiala city and needs to be addressed immediately. Through Mission Clean Patiala, concerted efforts are being made to address dust pollution by improving cleanliness and reducing the accumulation of waste and dust on roads and public places. She said that every citizen, institution, office and business establishment should take the responsibility of maintaining the cleanliness of roads and public places outside their premises. The enthusiastic participation of students, government departments and private organizations in today’s campaigns shows that when people from all sections of society work together, achievements can be assured. She said that PPCB will continue to work with all stakeholders to build on this momentum and make cleanliness, environmental responsibility and prevention of dust pollution a shared responsibility across Patiala.”
