Patiala, May 22:

As part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s mission to make Punjab drug-free, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh is spearheading the anti-drug campaign in rural Patiala. He said that villages are now standing united against drugs, and the day is not far when Punjab will be completely free of this menace.

Administering an oath to residents of Kalwa, Hardaspur, and Baran villages, Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized that the fight against drugs is a struggle for the very survival of Punjabis, and every individual must contribute to this cause. He shared that “Village Defence Committees” have been set up to monitor drug-related activity and report it to the local SDM and SHO.

The Health Minister highlighted that the Punjab government has made comprehensive arrangements for the treatment of drug addicts and has introduced skill development programs to help rehabilitated individuals reintegrate into society.

Dr. Balbir Singh noted a significant shift in public sentiment, stating that where once people feared drug traffickers, now the traffickers themselves are fleeing in fear of the awakened public. Many have abandoned their homes and left the state. He added that strict action will be taken against properties acquired through drug money.

Underscoring the importance of strong collaboration between the public, administration, and police, the Minister encouraged citizens to share information confidentially via the government’s WhatsApp helpline at 97791-00200. He commended the growing number of people who are coming forward to support law enforcement with valuable information.

Present on the occasion were Patiala Rural Coordinator Harpal Singh Virk, DSP Manoj Gorsi, BDPO Baljeet Singh Sohi, along with a large gathering of villagers.
